When Sam James Kellen Dickerson was a little kid, he watched his aunt learn to make art and found himself inspired to practice. Today, Dickerson’s art style and repertoire of skills have grown immensely, as seen through his art business, AyeLazyFukProductions.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., in 1985, Dickerson is a self-taught artist, learning most of his skills from books and, recently, from YouTube. He also shared that he served in the United States Air Force for two years.

Explaining the story behind his business’s name, Dickerson said, “My lil’ cousin started it for me.”

As a play on words, the name is actually the opposite of what people saw him doing through his artwork. “I just added ‘Productions’ and thought, it’s not just A LazyFuk Productions, it’s AyeLazyFukProductions,” he said.

About six years ago, art became more than just a hobby for Sam Dickerson. He occasionally sold his art to whoever saw something of his or knew he made art. The more he created, the more he developed his style and skills, and the more AyeLazyFukProductions and its following grew.

Growing His Skill Set

AyeLazyFukProduction’s painting was featured in the Sneakerheadz shop.

Dickerson presents a wide range of artwork by making art on anything he gets his hands on, from paper and canvas to digital art on a computer and even wood pieces.

“I use whatever, no preference, yet I usually use what’s there,” he said. “… if nothing else, I can always find some paper and a pencil most times. I come up with everything else based on what I have [such as] paint, yarn, glue, ink, [and so on.].”

Today, his diversity of skills and types of art offered includes painting, tattooing, illustration, graphic design, digital painting, sketching, drawing, mixed media, pastels, watercolor, oil, acrylic, screen printing, ceramics, video editing, photography, murals, blueprints, model building, face and body painting, clothing design, logo design, animation, and music. He also shared that he’s even currently learning embroidery. Sam Dickerson is an incredibly versatile artist from his catalog of abilities.

Dickerson shared that he even had a painting in the Washington D.C. Sneakerheadz shop in 2021!

What Inspires Sam Dickerson’s Art For AyeLazyFukProductions

“Snow Storm”
by AyeLazyFukProductions

Sam Dickerson shared that he finds inspiration in everything around him.

“I’ll get inspired by really anything. I watch movies and cartoons while I work or listen to music while working,” he said. “I like pictures, so sometimes I’ll see a picture and think I like the look, the colors, or the position and use that and create around it. I’ll also start with just an abstract drawing or color spread on canvas and look for something in the design and bring it out or leave it as an abstract.”

Dickerson also shared that he frequently depicts women in his artwork. Using the shape of the woman’s body, he enjoys drawing and creating on or around the figure.

“I used to do a lot with birds [such as eagles], and I sometimes use bible scenes or an idea that reminds me of a passage,” he said. “Graphic design-wise, I’ve been doing more with old cartoons I used to watch and comic characters.”

Experiencing His Life Through Art

For Sam Dickerson, art means a lot to him personally. It’s his way of “expressing and experiencing life and the things life brings to mind.”

“I try to keep it positive, but sometimes my mood might show, someone has told me,” he said. “But for the most part, [art] is what I’ve had when I had nothing, so I look at it like it’s my lemon or apple tree.”

In his experiences selling his art, he shared the most important lessons he’s learned: balancing the cost of supplies, finding a place to present or sell your art, and staying busy or productive.

Presently, his biggest goals are to establish himself where he’s comfortable, to find stability, and be able to work while also creating and selling his art.
