Rise and Shine

Rise and Shine

Ed Mylett, self-made millionaire and motivational speaker, says, “As you can’t always control the middle of your day, you can always control the beginning and end. Most people lose control of their day within the first 10 minutes because of hitting the snooze, browsing social media, and not having any real structure.” Having a morning routine creates momentum for a productive day and provides you with a feeling of accomplishment and success first thing in your morning. Have you considered bringing more control into your day by establishing a morning routine? Here are some ways to help you “rise and shine” for success!

Start Small

A simple place to start is by identifying what you already do daily. Maybe you put your contacts in first thing, followed by taking your medication and brushing your teeth. Taking note of these things helps you be more mindful of your existing habits. And, it allows you to loop in new elements to your existing routine.

Find What Works

When adding things into your existing routine or developing a new one, you’ll experience a few bumps in the road. You’ll plan out an entire routine only to find that when you want to make your bed, your cat is so cutely snuggled in your messy blankets, and you couldn’t possibly kick her off. If you then decide that you don’t need to make your bed, add something different in place; or, nothing at all.

Change It Up

While a dominant part of a routine involves consistency, don’t be afraid to change up your routine if you feel bored. If meditating is currently more interesting to you than writing an entry in your dream journal, then switch it out! You make the rules.

Don’t Force Yourself to “Rise and Shine”

Morning routines are different for everyone, which includes whether or not you even have one. After trying it out, if it feels like a chore, stop, take a break, or even skip a day. Not everyone has to have a morning routine, and that’s okay!

While there are plenty of studies out there about the “best” or “most beneficial” morning routine, it really depends on what works for YOU. What works for Kim Kardashian probably doesn’t work for Oprah Winfrey. We all have different goals and objectives in our lives and our day so grab ideas and inspiration from others but only use what works for you. Rise and shine!
