The Importance of Community Involvement

Families in Las Vegas can benefit from group activities with people in their area. Multiple sources have shown that people benefit from activities with others near them. For example, Teach Hub shows data exhibiting that the benefits of group work include improved social skills and cooperation with others, complex task management, a sense of accountability, and important feedback from other peer groups. According to Teach Hub, this strengthens the ability to develop relationships.

Employees of the community center, both past and present, also agree about the importance and benefits of community centers.

Tom Tanner has worked at Desert Breeze for 24 years as a recreation assistant providing personal training and weight training for the fitness center members. He believes “the best part of working at Desert Breeze are the people he has met throughout the years that still come to the center.” In addition, he feels that the center has a “family atmosphere,” encouraging long-term relationships that grow over time.

Roberta Dingman, an ex-employee of Desert Breeze Community Center, believes that “the people that came into the center every week enjoyed the friendship with other people and employees as much as they liked participating in activities.”

Dingman also found interacting with guests and other employees highly rewarding and “loved her job at Desert Breeze.” She pointed out that she only left her position because she relocated and moved out of state.

Further evidencing the type of work environment the center has, Forbes voted Desert Breeze Community Center one of the best-in-state employers of 2022.
