Back in February, the Fremont Street Experience held its first-ever Excessive Celebration Bowl Bash, which lasted four days. The event ran from February 8th through the 11th. Chris Lane, Starship, and The Offspring headlined the event.

The Bowl Bash featured live performances across three stages and a silent disco experience with a DJ playing music exclusively through wireless headphones.

The Offspring Plug Up, Play Loud, and Stir Up Frenzy

On that cold Saturday night on February 10, The Offspring were the last performers set to play to the warmed-up crowd.

The veteran rock legends brought a set full of hits like “Come Out and Play” and “All I Want,” to name a few. They played not only their own hits but also other bands’ hits as well. They played quick covers of ‘Iron Man’ by Black Sabbath, ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ by Guns and Roses, ‘Smoke on the Water’ by Deep Purple, and ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ by the Ramones that made the crowd sing at the top of their lungs.

The crowd near The Fremont Street Experience stage was packed to the point of being unable to move. The Offspring nevertheless had them moving, singing, and shouting. Singer and rhythm guitar player Dexter Holland and lead guitar player Kevin Wasserman, better known as Noodles, enjoyed talking to the crowd in between songs.

“We have this nice crowd, and what I love so much is that they’re so loud tonight, and they’re singing their asses off. I can feel it,” Holland said.

“Not only do I feel it, dude, it’s not just the volume, it’s the quality of their voices, it’s the tenor, it’s the tone,”  Wasserman said. He then commented about the crowd being ”pitch perfect.”

A True Fremont Street Experience

The crowd continued to show their appreciation for the band by singing and moshing in a way that perhaps only Vegas could muster up. It was a night of strangers and fans gathering to meet around the band’s music.

Thanks to the Fremont Street Experience layout, people far away still saw the stage as the band performed. The LED Canopy screen above the crowd enabled people to watch the band perform from anywhere. It’s not called an experience for nothing.

Die-hard fans mixed with various others ranging from incredibly young to middle-aged and old. They wore their T-shirts and shouted along with the songs to the point that they likely strained their voices for the next day.

Everyone came together for a great show, from those unfamiliar with the songs to those who knew all the words.

The End of the Set

As the band reached the end of their set, Noodles mentioned that he’d return to host a tour at the Punk Rock Museum on April 14th. After the announcement, they played some more, as the fans continued the frenzy with each hit song.

Then the show came to an end—or so the band wanted the audience to believe. They gave the crowd an encore and played “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” and “Self Esteem,” which everyone sang along to.

People felt the energy from the concert long after the band stopped playing. This manifested in the tired faces still smiling, people still singing their songs, and people jumping around from the lingering rush of it all. The state-of-the-art sound system, combined with the downtown atmosphere and the band’s sound, made for a memorable night for everyone who witnessed the fantastic show.

Most people happened to be there by chance and had decided to stick around. Far from feeling disappointed by the band, the impromptu concert-goers wore tired smiles after the concert ended. The Offspring gained new fans that night.
