Make Avi Kwa Ame a National Monument

Information borrowed from a post by climateactionnv

The area proposed for Avi Kwa Ame (Spirit Mountain in the Mojave Tribe) National Monument in Southern Nevada contains some of the most visually stunning, biologically diverse, and culturally significant lands in the entire Mojave Desert.⠀

For ten Yuman tribes, the area is tied to their creation, cosmology, and well-being. For Hopi and Chemehuevi Paiute, the entire area is considered sacred. Protecting 383,000 acres from development and destruction would be the greatest gift to honor Indigenous People’s Day AND to honor Avi Kwa Ame.⠀
