Doom and Bloom – A Poem About Finding Light in the Dark

A graphic showing a pink lotus flower is transparent in the background with a transparent yellow block overlaying the image, with pink and black text with the poem ‘Doom and Bloom’ written out. Line art of a pink sun is on the top with the poem title in lavender purple font. Two small yellow lotus flowers are in the corner of the text box.

The world feels dark and full of doom,
It seems the end is nigh,
And emotions are high,
Yet the flowers still persist and bloom.

They carry on as if they assume,
That the days will be in rich supply,
That each day the sun will rise,
And that they will bear fruit from their womb.

So the flowers release their sweet perfume,
To attract the helpers, lovers, and dreamers alike,
To inspire beauty, presence, and soul before saying goodbye,
And to remember not to let the darkness consume.

A Note About the Poem

I wrote a new poem at the end of last month while struggling to keep my head above the river of overwhelm and sense of doom in the news.

Sitting in my garden and seeing flowers blooming and fruit trees ripening, nature continues to show me the light in the dark.

And in trying to find joy in that darkness, these simple, beautiful things around me are reminiscent of the perseverance and tenacity of life. When the world seems dark and full of doom, the flowers remind me to find the light as they bloom.
