Sara Godbout and the Duality of Life and Art
Taking inspiration from the duality of the sun and moon, Sara Godbout creates art to connect deeper with nature while providing for her family. This Las Vegas artist, event curator, and self-asserted “boss bitch” has come a long way from where she began.
While Sara Godbout has created art since she was a child, it wasn’t until the pandemic that she felt compelled to sell professionally.
“I’ve always made art. But I professionally started during COVID, selling commission works,” she said. Launching officially in March 2021, she began table vending her art. “I put myself out there, which was terrifying.”
Overcoming challenges like the learning curve of starting a business and the financial start-up were her biggest hurdles.
“I came from having no money and mountains of debt, and having to flip a lot,” she said. “My first show was $15 outside the Arts Factory, and I used the money I made at that event to save for a table and grow from there.”
Sara explained that her family inspired her to start her own art business.
“I wanted to make money and be a stay-at-home mom,’ she said. “Their dad works full time, and I wanted to be able to contribute so we had extra income, and so I’d be able to help my family by building something for them and for me.”
Now Sara enjoys the balance between her two loves: art and family. And after nearly five years of hard work, she’s getting ready to make the next step in her business!
The Creative Corner LV
As part of her long-term goals, Godbout shared that she aspired to have a storefront business sometime in the near future.
“I’d like to have a spot – I am going to have a spot,” she said, manifesting the idea, “that’s going to have coffee and cocktails, where people can come and do classes. I’m going to set up a gallery, have a little library in it, and offer a place for a community.”
Initially, planning on a timeline of a few years to create this dream, Sara Godbout brought her goal to life and announced on December 13th her plans to open her art gallery downtown in 2026!

Sara Godbout’s Art
Sara Godbout creates art inspired by beautiful skyscapes and nature all around her.
“It’s a common theme in my work to make art of the sun and the moon and those two dualities. They remind me of my mom and dad, and they’re my favorite thing to paint,” she said. “In my early days, I did cacti, mountainscapes, and other scenery. I grew up in California, surrounded by mountains, and when I moved out here, I was surrounded by mountains still.”
Using a variety of mediums, Godbout creates art with acrylic, watercolor, oil pastels, chalk, spray paint, as well as pen and pencil in a sketchbook.
With these mediums, she produces original canvas work featuring whimsical scenes and characters. You can find these paintings, prints, digital artwork, stickers, lighters, clothing, custom commission work, and even a coloring book on her store.

Folks can buy Sara Godbout’s art in several locations around the Las Vegas valley.
“My work is inside Recycled Propaganda in the Arts District, as well as Arts After Dark and Blick Art Supplies,” she said. “I also occasionally vend at First Friday.”
Her art is also found inside the Arts Factory at Screaming Demon Art. And you can purchase her art directly from her website at saragodbout.com.
Godbout also vends and hosts events like Brunch and Brush at The Parlor in Henderson, Puff and Paint at Planet13, Preview Thursdays at the Berlin Bar, and Second Sunday at DT Container Park. Godbout also recently vended with ISI for their vendor village at the Neon City Music Festival in November.
She shared that the Brunch and Brush event has really grown since she began it in September. Usually hosted every other Sunday, it’s currently taking a break for the cold months as it is typically an outdoor event. She plans to revisit it as the weather warms up.

On the Horizon
Looking to the future, Sara Godbout has a lot planned that she’s working toward.
“Currently, my goal is to expand my online outreach in terms of my website and selling products online as opposed to just vendor markets,” she said. “And I want to continue to grow my expertise as an event coordinator, grow markets, give opportunities to other small business owners and artists.”
Godbout also shared that she’s been aspiring to write a children’s book by the time she’s 30, and wants to expand her collection of coloring books that she sells.
In general, she said that she wants to make more art as she enters the new year. “I’ve found I’ve been very caught up in exploring other parts of my entrepreneurship, like content creation and event coordination, so I’m finding more fun in creating more art,” she said. “I want to make a point of making art again.”
Sara Godbout In the Community
Since starting her art business, Sara Godbout has interwoven herself deeply into the community through collaborative and community work.
“I do it all! The largest one is the ISI Group, which is the largest art collective here in Vegas. It’s industry supporting industry,” she said. “Working with them allows me to collaborate with so many artists and businesses.”
Through ISI, Godbout helps curate and coordinate weekly and monthly events.
“They’ve allowed me to spearhead through Preview Thursday, where I book artists, vendors, and music, and I make the flyer,” she said. “I do all that for them and the community.”
Godbout also partnered with Arts After Dark to run the second annual toy drive on December 12th.
The Meaning of Art to Sara, Especially in An Ever-Growing World of AI Slop
Getting into the nitty-gritty of being an artist and what art means to her, Godbout said. “Art is everything to me, dude.”
“Since I was a little girl, art’s been very prevalent in my life. As an adult, I bought my house because of it!” she said. “I can afford to live without any restriction, I can afford to live and exist and do really whatever I want. That’s freedom, that’s everything, and it’s all based on my art and my skill.”
Touching on the growing threat of generative AI and the harm it causes, Godbout said. “I hate it. I’m super anti-AI, anti-Chat GPT.”
She even reported seeing her work stolen and being resold on off-brand websites.
“It’s a shitty, vulnerable feeling that someone is profiting off something that came out of you,” she said.
Mental Health and Connecting with People
Touching on the arts’ impacts on mental health, Godbout shared how it helps her survive the horrors of the current world we live in.
“Art allows my very busy brain to momentarily check out and be present in my existence and in my emotions,” she said.
And, as part of her favorite part about creating art, it allows her to connect with people more intimately.
“I love connecting with the community in the way that I do and being able to share my art,” she said. “It’s a great feeling when someone buys a piece of it, or when they tell me, ‘This is dope, don’t stop.’ It’s nice to connect with people in multiple ways.”
